GSPG Bounces Back After Major Dip
Friday, September 19th, 2008
Just a few short days after I mentioned Goldspring Inc.GSPG) last Friday the stock took one of the bigger nosedives I’ve seen in recent micro-cap history. After getting a $.0125 haircut from 9/12 to 9/17, shares dipped all the way down to a low trade of $.01 yesterday on volume of nearly 160 million.
The beating was so ferocious in fact that GSPG management was forced to comment on the recent trading of its stock stating that they had no idea what dragged it down on such high volume. Either way, GSPG bounced back today, gaining more than 23% on nearly 33 million shares traded, closing at $.0285 and gave investors hope for next week.
As I mentioned last week, there’s a whole lotta risk involved in this investment, not unlike most others in penny land. However, with about 3 billion shares out, more giant dips like this week’s could be in store. Either way, I suggest studying the activity here as there’s money to be made buying on the dips with GSPG. You just gotta have the guts to play and the brains to decipher a dip from a dive. Have a great weekend, folks.
Another Order for Nighthawk’s PT1000
Thursday, September 18th, 2008
What is HARS? It’s the system that helps keep you safe on the road and home one time.
HARS is the Highway Advisory Radio System and is responsible for broadcasting messages through an AM frequency that highway drivers can tune in to and access current information regarding traffic patterns and highway conditions.
Whether it be a construction delay, an accident, or even an act of god, such as a rock slide, the HARS helps keep drivers where they need to be and in one piece by alerting them to what their commutes their commutes have in store for them.
Today, one of our favorite long-time portfolio favorites, Nighthawk Systems (OTCBB: NIHK) announced a 75-unit order today from Quixote Transportation Technologies, Inc. for products to be used in HARSs throughout the country. NIHK’s PT1000 remote control boards having been reportedly going into Quixote’s HIS brand for more than 5 years.
QTT is one of two wholly-owned subsidiaries of publicly-traded Quixote Corporation (NYSE: QUIX). With trailing-twelve month revenues of nearly $138 million, QUIX is is the world’s leading manufacturer of transportation safety products and services. Going forward, its PT100 could become a very lucrative product line for Nighthawk in addition to its solid CEO700 and IPTV product offerings, if its relationship with Quixote continues to grow.
Commenting on today’s announcement, NIHK CEO H. Douglas Saathoff stated “We’re happy to continue our affiliation with the Highway Information Systems brand. The PT1000 is one of our core products that has proven to be reliable in mission-critical applications for many years, and that is why we continue to generate a large percentage of repeat business with existing customers every year.“
Quest BK Update!!!
Wednesday, September 17th, 2008I had the chance to speak with Eugene from Quest Minerals & Mining (OTCBB: QMNM) this morning from the Pond Creek mine in Kentucky.
Although the Gwenco BK proceeding has in fact been delayed another 20 days, he did note that on the bright side, they were able to conduct a private meeting after the judge’s decision and receive a verbal agreement from the objecting parties to accept the revised re-org plan.
The way that I understand the situation, the creditors will be issued a notice during October which will be voted on shortly thereafter during the next, and potential final, proceeding. As I am not a lawyer, and don’t claim to be one, I can’t be positive that this is absolutely the last bump in the road in regards to Gwenco proceeding out of Chap 11. However, Gene seems confident that he has taken a major step towards moving out of BK with the verbal agreement.
Gene also mentioned that he was in fact standing in front of the conveyor belt at Pond Creek and watching coal come out of the mine. He also mentioned that they are about 500 ft from hitting the main seem, but are nonetheless churning out “good coal every day”.
I will report back on my findings pending future conversations with the company. I hope that this helps shed some light on the situation unfolding at Quest.
Sapphire Energy Paving way For Renewable Energy
Wednesday, September 17th, 2008
I was searching online for an interesting topic to write about this morning and low and behold; didn’t I come across a local San Diego-based company with a very unique and environmentally friendly solution to the ever-growing global fuel crisis.
Sapphire Energy (private) has developed the world’s first-ever clean crude oil that harnesses both sunlight and CO2. In this day and age, companies such as Sapphire offer a very attractive value proposition to consumers and fuel producers worldwide: Fuel from waste and immensely available and renewable natural resources.
Sapphire Energy has been soliciting funds from private investors over the past several months and got word recently that Bill Gate’s Investment Firm - Cascades Investments LLC – will join their already elite group of investors.
The company has been able to raise more than $100 million in funds to date, providing them with the necessary financial resources to move forward with plans to construct a 10,000-barrel-a-day algae-derived oil facility. Sapphire Energy is eager to get under way and is confident that they have the solution for tomorrow, today. The company has already proven its ability to produce a “green crude oil” made directly from CO2 using the natural process of photosynthesis.
On a very positive note, the byproduct from Sapphire’s process is ASTM compliant and does not require the use of food crops or agriculture land, which will ultimately help prevent food prices from soaring globally. Lastly, the renewable green fuel is carbon neutral and can potentially eliminate our country’s dependence on foreign fuel. Sounds like a winner to me!
Although Sapphire Energy is not publicly traded, the company has a lot to offer to Americans as we continue to persevere though increasingly tough times and hunt for an environmental friendly solution to our growing fuel problem.
Zevotek Gains on ERA News
Tuesday, September 16th, 2008
Zevotek Inc. (OTCBB: ZVTK) is up nearly 100% to $.06 as of 11:47 ET today on nearly 80,000 shares traded. This morning, the company announced an aggressive sales meeting schedule for the upcoming ERA show in Vegas and also re-iterated its belief that coming home from Vegas with 500K in unit sales is a distinct possibility.
As we’ve mentioned before, a few hundred thousand in unit sales would go a long way for a company just getting its start. I’ll be watching closely to see how things develop over the next few weeks.
Commenting on the news, CEO Adam Engel stated ” Zevotek officials will be working non-stop for two days straight at the upcoming Las Vegas ERA show to meet our previously stated goal of generating orders for the sale of at least 500,000 Ionic Bulbs. I’m very excited about the opportunity to exhibit our landmark product to such a large pool of electronic retailing professionals, all of which hold the potential of strengthening our international reach‘.
Automation and Software Deliver Green Benefits
Tuesday, September 16th, 2008
As the global economy worsens, company’s capable of saving their clients time and money by simplifying and automating costly and environmentally harmful processes will thrive while others fall by the wayside.
Three such companies are Green Printer, Workforce Software, and Autodesk Inc. Here’s a great read on these 3 companies:
Green Printer Inc. – While most printers struggle due to rapid decline of the overall print market, this environmentally friendly player has tacked on 2,100 new clients since its inception last June. The company has also, by its own account, saved its clients approximately 76,645 pounds of greenhouse gasses and 38,116 pounds of solid waste in its relatively short existence.
In addition to using recycled paper and non-toxic ink, the company’s proprietary licensed software allows the user to identify local printing venues to help reduce transportation costs.
Workforce Software, a leader in workforce management software and time and attendance systems, has experienced +200% revenue and profit growth over the past three years due to the success of its EmpCenter software suite in easing employer fears of employee telecommuting by developing automated reporting solutions that provide them with increased visibility and control over their remote employees.
Lastly, Sustainable Minds, a green product design software and information service company has recently partnered with AutoDesk Inc. to develop software solutions that forecast the future environmental impacts of their clients product design decisions and help customers develop new offerings while utilizing the “greenest” possible formulations.
In our own portfolio, I know that we’ve been harping on it lately, but, Nighthawk Systems Inc. (OTCBB: NIHK) offers a very compelling and timely automated solution as well. The company’s remote disconnect products enable the wireless connect and disconnect of virtually any electronic device from anywhere in the world. With energy conservation on the tip of the world’s tongue as of late, NIHK should benefit from the ability of its products to help save consumers time and money.
A Concrete Cure for Global Warming
Monday, September 15th, 2008
An emerging California company by the name of Calera believes it can reduce the emissions from the Moss Landing power plant in California by converting the excess CO2 released from the facility into concrete. Man, what a concept!!
The Problem:
The Moss Landing power plant currently expels harmful CO2 particles into the air via smoke stacks. This flue gas is super-heated to about 700 degrees Fahrenheit.
The Solution:
Calera says that if that flue gas is channeled into the nearby sea water, they can convert 90% of the CO2 emissions into concrete.
The process for making cement requires a lot of heating and burning of fossil fuels; in result creating one ton of CO2 emissions for every one ton of concrete produced. Calera’s process for making calcium carbonate cement would not only reduce the CO2 emissions but trap half a ton of CO2 per ton of cement created, making it an amazing carbon capture and storage technique that creates necessary building materials simultaneously. Billions of tons of cement are used each year, so, that would in theory convert Billions of tons of CO2 into a usable product instead of releasing it into our fragile atmosphere.
Industry Big Wigs Must be Swayed
One concern is that building companies are conservative and like to keep building costs down and quality up. Calera will present this to the industry this February in order to help ease the industry leaders into the idea of strictly carbonate cement to reduce the CO2 emissions.
Calera is making a smart, carbon-neutral cement by mixing half carbonate cement and half Portland cement (the current industry standard) which balances out the carbon effect. Therefore, the cost to make carbon neutral cement would drop dramatically because sea water and the emissions from the smoke stacks would be free.
Calera is now testing its products in a small controlled plant near Moss Landing. Dynegy the owner of the power plant is interested in working with Calera and so is Caltrans (California Department of Transportation). This could be a great revolution for harnessing the emissions of fossil fuels by power plants and eventually making them emission free. We’ll be watching this story closely over the next few months and will report back as developments arise.
Quest BK Comments – Have not Yet Spoken W/Gene
Monday, September 15th, 2008Hello all. I did not have the chance today to speak with Eugene at Quest regarding the objections to their re-org plan for BK. However, I’m pretty darn sure that he had to have been aware of them prior to our conversation last week and he was confident that the judge would in fact accept his plan. I plan on contacting him first thing tomorrow morning and will be sure to reply back with my findings. Sorry for the delay folks! Let’s keep our fingers crossed.
